Ways on Mission

“So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.”
— Acts 13:3

Dear friends,

Well, the Ways have some pretty big news - at least it’s big for us. We’re moving. We have been praying as a family and with our Boiler Room leadership throughout the summer and fall, and believe that the Lord is sending us out to the nations as workers in His harvest. We are personally thrilled and expectant - and a bit nervous and sometimes overwhelmed. Obviously parting with our kids will be an extremely trying and sad thing for us, but we are confident in the Father’s grace and leading. We are incredibly happy that Philip and Hannah will be going with us. They will be important parts of our mission team and we’re so so happy to be doing this with them. Peter and Nathan will be holding down the fort in Tulsa, and we’ll look forward with great anticipation to any time we get to be re-united with them. Rebekah is also planning to be sent out as a missionary, and has her eyes set on Thailand.

By God’s grace, we’re planning to move back to Uganda.

Last year, in partnership with the Tulsa Boiler Room, we started a missions organization called Sent. This is a ministry of the Boiler Room but also has a wider sphere of operations and networking. Our ambition is to send missionaries in partnership with other local churches for the work of making disciples of all nations. Sent has a leader team that will oversee our work and the work of others who will go out through this organization. As a missions organization, we focus on making disciples through planting reproducible churches. Our heart’s desire is to see movements of disciples making disciples and churches planting churches as a way of reaching many with the love and truth of Jesus.

In Uganda, we have four areas of activity that all feed into the above vision of making disciples by planting reproducing churches:

1 Prayer. We look forward to praying in Africa for Africa to be reached with the Gospel, and to do what we can to mobilize others to this great endeavor. We anticipate retaining our connection with 24-7 Prayer, and look forward to partnering with them in new ways in this new work.

2 Training National Workers. We intend to set up training programs to equip workers in reproducible, simple church planting.

3 Equipping Missionaries. We plan to incorporate residencies and apprenticing for missionaries into all we do, providing on-the-field equipping for those called into missions.

4 National Collaboration. We are already working towards helping to form a national team of high-impact Ugandan leaders who will work together to form a strategy for reaching the nation and beyond with the gospel and to further strengthen the existing churches.

Our target is to be in Uganda by August of 2021. Obviously, there are a lot of moving parts and a lot of things we cannot predict, not least the ongoing effects of the COVID pandemic. We are busy seeking the Lord, making plans, and working to be ready to go. We will hold these plans lightly while at the same time being diligent and persistent in pursuing them.

We plan to have some events - locally in Tulsa as well as online - in which we will share more about our plans. These will be early in the new year, and we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, it would be fantastic to hear from you. In order to get on our emailing list or find out how to partner with us financially, follow the links below:
